Frequently Asked Questions

It's a good idea to have some questions ready to ask a DJ before booking them. There's a few standard lists available online, but most of them neglect what should be the most important question to ask. The first question you should be asking is by far the most important.

What is the name of the DJ for your wedding?

You can't read reviews of your DJ or know their experience without knowing their name first.  Most companies will talk about years of experience in terms of the company, but only a few will tell you the name of the DJ that you're booking. Every year as many as half of all DJs have never worked a wedding before, or have very limited work experience. I would highly recommend finding out their name so you can research them and make an informed decision.

What is the Average Price for a DJ?

The BBB published an article in 2019 with average wedding costs for SW Ontario. Weddings on average were $30, 717 and the DJ cost was $1442 just to give you a baseline. This aligns with the majority of budgeting references given in wedding publications and by planners, roughly 5% - 10% of the total wedding cost.

How is your Boutique DJ Service different from other DJ Services?

To answer this you have to understand two definitions; a single-op DJ service and a multi-op DJ service. A single-op means the owner is the DJ. In contrast, a multi-op may or may not have an owner that is a DJ or an owner acting as a booking agent with access to other DJs. These other DJs are really subcontractors, they perform the work which allows the owner of the DJ company to take on more bookings. The DJs are really independent contractors, and the quality of their work is largely dependent on how much they're making. Their payment, in many cases, is far too little to attract experienced professionals.

We're a hybrid of giving couples the best of both worlds with regards to DJing. We have all the backups and additional resources of a multi-op without the subcontracting. We also have the personalization that a single-op offers. We'll only work with 30-40 couples max, in a year, which gives us time to focus on each wedding. Meanwhile, multi-op DJ companies will frequently do more than 200 weddings in a year using different subcontracted DJs. Scaling back on the number of weddings we do each year allows us to support you every step of the way. With Loops N Jamzz, you work with your DJs from the start.

What is the Most Important Thing to Consider When Hiring a DJ?

See question one...what is the name of the DJ for your wedding? (Not just the company name, but the DJ)

What Equipment Do You Use?

This is a loaded question because pretty much every DJ claims ownership of state-of-the-art, top-of-the-line, or professional grade equipment. The fact is, most couples don't know enough about equipment to pass judgment. This could be of concern to brides, particularly because having low quality or dated equipment can ruin a wedding. Furthermore, DJs and DJ companies that utilize this low-quality equipment rarely have backups for them. As a DJ, but also an Electronics Engineering Tech, I made the choice to use very high-end products. If you would like further information, we can certainly talk in-depth on this subject and I can offer some tips on how to compare equipment.

Should Or Do I Need a Contract?

Absolutely, do not do business with anyone that cannot provide you with a contract. Basic details in the contract such as; time, date, what is included, the name of your DJ, and the costs should be written into the agreement. No legitimate DJ business should be operating without a contract.

What Goes into DJing A Reception, Besides Playing Music?

We plan as many details as possible. A good plan helps ease any stress and allows for a seamless flow throughout the evening. On average, a simple wedding requires 25 hours of prior preparation, while more complex weddings could need 40 hours or more. The image below graphically represents this in more detail.
